Communication & Language
Empowering Confident Communication for a Brighter Future. Our certified speech pathologists are dedicated to helping you and your family develop the speech and language skills needed for confident communication, strong literacy, and joyful social participation.
When you can communicate well and build meaningful relationships with others, it can change your life. Speaking and communicating are fundamental to how we connect, learn, and navigate our everyday activities.
Speech and language therapy is a specialised area of allied health that provides vital support to children and young adults facing challenges with their speech and language development. Our goal is to address your child's unique needs, building a strong foundation in communication, literacy, and social skills that will serve them in every setting.
At Nialume Allied Health, our speech pathologists have extensive experience in addressing a wide range of challenges. We provide support for:
Helping with clear and correct pronunciation of sounds and words.
Ensuring your child can be easily understood by family, friends, and teachers.
Overcoming stuttering and other articulation difficulties to enable fluent, confident speech.
Addressing challenges with reading, writing, and spelling to support academic success.
Assisting with swallowing and feeding difficulties to ensure mealtimes are safe and positive.
We believe in a personalised, evidence-based approach to therapy. Our speech pathologists will design a treatment program tailored specifically to your child's individual needs and goals. We work collaboratively with you, the experts on your child, to address any challenges they may face with language and social interaction.
This includes helping with issues related to the biomechanics of the jaw and mouth, which can significantly improve both speaking and eating. At every step, we are focused on achieving the goals that matter most to your family.
Our process begins with a thorough assessment, using a variety of formal and informal tools to identify specific areas of difficulty. From there, we use proven, evidence-based therapies to help improve communication skills in practical, everyday settings.
The team at Nialume Allied Health is committed to continuous learning. Our speech pathologists have undertaken specialised training in a range of highly effective therapeutic models, including:
We believe that collaboration is key. Our speech pathologists will work closely with your child's other caregivers, educators, and health professionals to ensure consistent and holistic care. We also champion parent coaching, an approach we often use to empower you with strategies and confidence to support your child's development at home.
As part of your therapy journey, your Speech Pathologist may recommend specific programs to accelerate progress towards your goals.
An early intervention program designed for children under five, particularly toddlers with developmental delays, Autism, or other disabilities, to build foundational communication skills through play.
Targeted literacy programs designed to strengthen the building blocks of reading, spelling, and writing for school-aged children.
The Nialume Allied Health team can provide expert support in the following areas:
Yes, we also have Occupational Therapy services, which can provide support with motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and everyday functional skills.
While we specialise in a paediatric client base (typically between 2-18 years old), we do not have a strict age limit. We have clinicians who are experienced and able to see adult clients as well.
Your initial appointment is focused on getting to know you and your child. Your clinician will discuss your concerns in detail and conduct a thorough assessment of your child's abilities. This may involve play-based activities or more formal assessment tools.
Every assessment is tailored to your child's needs. It typically involves activities designed to elicit speech and language, allowing the clinician to observe their skills. If appropriate, a formal assessment may be used to compare your child's performance to their same-aged peers, which helps in setting precise goals.
A complimentary brief summary is provided after your initial assessment. Should you require a formal, comprehensive report (e.g., for NDIS applications, diagnostic assessments), this can be provided for an additional fee.
We ask that you are present for at least part of the first session to discuss your child's history and your concerns. For ongoing sessions, you are welcome to stay, but you are not required to be present as long as you and your child are comfortable.
Once a spot that matches your preferred times becomes available, our administration team will contact you by phone. After confirming, you will receive a new client intake form to complete online before your first appointment.
We have very limited capacity for school visits and are not currently offering home visits. Our services are primarily clinic-based to provide the best access to our resources.
We accept several funding options:
